My front end used to be surprisingly tight and showed no signs of having ever been replaced since manufacture. Despite the terrible condition it was in when I found it, the truck only showed something like 3,300 original miles and the cable was still in tact and connected. Since '08 when I got it on the road, I believe we've clocked around 4,000 miles and a lot of of that has been off road...some hard off road use too...so I now need to go through and tighten up the front end. The tires really need to be replaced, I am running some really old bias ply mud grip tires that I got off of a 1968 international pickup and I believe the date of manufacture to have been some time in the mid 70's so they are way past due. despite the dry rot, they still seem to be structurally sufficient and the insides still look brand new but I really don't want to push it too much longer. The truck has been parked for 2 years now and I don't have any plans to dig into it in the near future. I need to start getting tires for it, Samson traction tires in 9.00-16, but we're in the process of building a house and I have my carryall sitting in the shop ready for me to start getting the body ready to mount to the shortened '01 Dodge 2500 frame. I dug in to the 12v Cummins last weekend to replace some seals and found that the KDP fix has already been done and I think the P7100 has been tweaked as well.... for now I am just going to get the leaks fixed and get it mounted in the truck. I have been talking to my Dad about doing a "Boys Hardship Trip" to Iowa if I can have it road worthy by then. By hardship, I mean that the truck will likely only have front glass in it and maybe some plexiglass over the side windows, heat will most likely just radiate up through the floor. That and my arthritic cervical spine from 20 years of looking down at a notepad or data collector screen and my 65 year old retired after 30 years as a firefighter father....there are bound to some creaky joints. I will be thrilled if we can make it happen. At least I have some nice Mercedes seats for it.
