Well, it may be that people are thinking that the V8 will handle the higher rpms needed to achieve higher road speeds better than the flathead six. But...as you are implying, there probably are some folks who think this engine and transmission combination will somehow magically allow the engine to turn slower while still achieving the desired road speed.
