In 1954, the P25 engine numbers started at 1001 sequentially increasing with each engine. 1955 P26 engines start at 1001 also.

Early 1954 engines were bore/stroke 3-1/4 x 4-3/8 or 218 CID
Late 1954 engines were bore/stroke 3-1/4 x 4-5/8 or 230 CID

Based on your engine number, my guess is you have a 230. The P25 engine was used in Plaza (P25-1), Savory, (P25-2) and Belvedere (P25-3) models.

I haven't come across any information that indicates the model code were incorporated into the engine code.
