As title suggested, I’m a bit confused as to what I have and have been running in my Truck.
First off, it’s a plymouth motor. Numbers on raised pad are stamped:
P25*27157*
All charts I’ve seen to date indicate it’s a 1954 Plymouth 218. Cool. Great. I assumed it and just accepted that.
Until today I ran across this site:
https://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/MOPAR_inline_flathead_engines#1928-1959_Plymouth_engine_specs
Now the chart for the 54 year engine breaks down into further info.
P-25-1
P-25-2
P-25-3
Where as the P-25-1 are 218 motors, and the P25-2 and P25-3 are listed as 230 engines?
Now.. my serial number is P-25-27157
With the first number after the “P-25” being a “2”, Does that mean I have a 230 motor?
I’m not ready to tear off the head and measure the piston size and stroke to verify, but will one of these dats
Just WONDERING if anyone here can verify this 218/230 numbering?
Like I wrote, I’ve always just “assumed” it to be a 218 from other online charts I’ve seen. But this further breakdown of numbering makes me quess now
Thanks.
