Build number 1858 is correct. Let's simply this.

Assume only 8 trucks were built in 1951 with serial numbers 83922501 to 83922508. Eight trucks were built: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. But by subtracting 8-1=7, you arrive at the difference between the beginning and ending serial numbers, not the total production. You have to add the first truck, 1, back to the difference to arrive at total production of 8 trucks.

So with larger numbers, 1857 + 1 = 1858.
