You are right. It was a not so big Diesel that we used in smaller boats (it was not very popular and was offered as an owner specified option). The 555 got its name because the displacement was 555 cubic inches. We used many more Detroit Diesel engines. Lots of the 71 series, also 92 series and even the 149 series in the larger boats. We had twin engines in all models except that the commercial trawlers we built had a single Caterpillar engine. Later we used a lot of twin Caterpillar engines in fast sport fishing yachts.
