Well, the wife and I pulled the transmission and found the clutch to be installed correctly. But the disc just does not look right at all, the way it sits. The pad material sticks up 5/32" past the pressure plate bolt hole surface/pad, and the metal disc the pads are adhered to sticks up 3/64". For some reason, that seems far too much to me. Everything else looks fine, so I really have no clue as to what is going on. But I mentioned the impossibly hard pedal- I had pushed so hard on the pedal trying to get the clutch to disengage that I literally BENT the lever for the clutch master cylinder pushrod bolt. Cast steel 1/2" thick. There is something wrong somewhere, so I am calling Fort Wayne Clutch tomorrow to see if they know what may be the problem. They may have put too many/too stiff springs in the pressure plate, or something. At this point, I'd be happy with a good used 12" clutch setup, honestly.
