The 3M Rubber Adhesive worked very well on all my trucks. One thing comes to mind. If when installing the gasket, you over stretch it, you will/can end up with a very loose fit in the area where you stop. Try working some of that looseness out into the rest of the gasket. It may well fit tight then.
I always let the completed install sit in the hot sun for a few days. In my opinion the heat helps 'train' the gasket to stay flat and tight.
