You're right it is very tight. If you back off the trans mounting bolts, push the clutch in, you can almost push the trans back from the fork hiting the retainer. I'm considering adding a 1/16 plate or spacer between the bell housing and trans to allow the fork more movement. I think a lot of grinding with gears on the spur gear trans is do to the fork not being able to press far enough on the clutch cover to reduce the disk friction.
