Here are a couple of things i have seen on a friends truck. I have seen silicone sucked into the fuel line at the tank several times . When the line is blown out checking for blockage it is pushed back only to be return again. This silicone came from sealing the fuel sender .

The other was the gasket thickness on the fuel pump. The pump would stop pumping for no apparent reason , the pump was removed several times when trouble shooting the problem and replaced with a gasket . At some point the gasket was destroyed . the pump was reinstalled with out a gasket only a silicone type sealer was used. The problem went away. Eventually it was determined the arm on the pump was defective. Initially we thought it was the lobe on the cam used for the pump was bad. Hard to believe that a 1/32 made the difference between working and not.
