In B.C. I’ve found them easy to please. They generally go with the chassis number but so long as there’s a number affixed to the vehicle they don’t really care since a great number of vehicles have had bodies & cabs swapped. The DMV isn’t the originality police...they simply want to be sure the vehicle isn’t stollen or made up of stollen parts & then their basically there to be sure a number is assigned & easily visible so it can be titled, insured & first & formost so they can be sure they can get their fees associated with the vehicle.
I had an Indian motorcycle that was assembled from parts & even that...no problem having it properly registered as a 1953 Indian Chief, just it had to be inspected & I had to prove that it was in fact a 1953.
The only way I can see having issues in any state is if you come across as shady or if there’s obvious vin numbers that have been ground off or tampered with.
That’s my experience.
