I owned a mower shop for 4 years, and before that, a commercial mowing business for 20 years. Here is my opinion. Cub,(MTD), mowers became mostly junk about 2007.I sold them until then. They eventually gave up what little market share they had in the commercial mowing business, and canned their whole commercial lineup, except for the Tank. They have just gotten back into the commercial mower market with this new ZTR. Yes, it looks good, but you had better stay away from it until it gets a few actual use reviews.
FYI: Both Dixon and Dixie Chopper are gone. Dixon was absorbed by Husquevarna, and DC was bought by Textron, who just announced the end of Dixie Chopper, and all their other mowers.
If you can buy a good commercial unit used, that is the way to go. You will save a ton of money. Also, try to buy a machine that has a good dealer nearby. Even with a nice clean unit, you will need parts and service now and then. I would not temp fate by buying the Cub at this time.FYI again: Briggs and Stratton now owns an interest in Cub,MTD, and is poised to purchase the entire operation in a few years.
Ok, I recommend brands like Grasshopper, Gravely, Scag, Toro, and Exmark, all used of course. Bobcat also make a fine ZTR at a fair price.
