The full warranty was 6 months? They often have a 6 month free replacement and then pro-rate for 24 or 36 months.
I'm guessing it was defective but because you don't drive it that much it takes that much longer for a defect to show up.
That said, I have had good luck with the AGM batteries, not necessarily the Optimas, but I have an Advanced Auto AGM in my car that's easily 6 or 7 years old and is just starting to show signs of getting weak, plus they have little to no dead draw.
