The model 61 heater that is mounted in my truck is a dark reddish brown as well. I have one parts heater that is also reddish brown and one that is gray, so it seems they came in at least two colors. The model 61 mounted in my truck is really shoehorned in there. I can see why they didn't recommend it for the PW.
