This guy did the block word and sent the crank out to a dedicated crankshaft shop.
I talked to several different machine shops before deciding to go with this one. Talking with other motor heads, it seems like this guy is well-respected. I suppose everyone makes mistakes, but I wouldn't expect them all to be on my engine.
I have dealt with other machine shops and came away dissatisfied (very much so in one case), but this guy seems to know his stuff, and he is personable and doesn't mind spending time to answer my numerous questions, which also gave him a big plus in my book.
