In 1948 Dodge 2wd trucks went to the larger knob style so anything the PW got from a 2wd like the ash tray or heater used the larger knob. The small knob style for the choke, panel, headlight, and electric wiper switch was used in 1947 and older 2wd trucks and PWs from 1946 to 1952. Then the PW changed to the larger style you showed. In 1955 the PW went to a black plastic style which was used basically until the end of domestic production in 1968. I havenā€™t seen enough kid 70s exports to be sure of the knobs.

The flat vs curved faces is a supplier issue I think, but Iā€™ve never managed to document the exact changes. There is also black vs red plastic which I also think was just a running change. Determining those sorts of details requires looking at a lot of original trucks and I havenā€™t put the time into the exact knob design changes within the smaller style.
