I bought a house 4 years ago here in Williamsport Indiana and the house is about 1800 sq feet ranch on crawl space. The furnace is in the crawl space and I had always had older home and log cabins so this was different for me, was a little worried about that but went into the crawl space to check the furnace out before buying the house. The previous owner had the crawl space encapsulated in this rubber-plastic type heavy gage material it is white in color and if there are seams etc. they are all glued or might be electricity fused together, and then the block sidewalls that are 5 block high are foamed over and it goes up to the sub flooring all apthe way around the house. The crawl space is heated and cooled. Was worried about the heating and cooling bill and to tell you the truth this home is the most efficient house we have ever had. The largest gas bill we have incurred here in this house has been 75.00 !
Many of our neighbors are double or more, but I door have 2x6 walls and the attic spaces including garage are insulated to the hilt. The thing is in the crawl space I could have on my only go to meeting suit on and go and change the furnace filter and no one would ever know that I had been under a house, that’s how clean it is under there! Hell I could live in the crawl space! I,m very glad the previous owner spent the 9 grand to have this done!
