Back when our eldest was around 3..4 yrs old, we had this stuffed duck in a suit toy thing. Squeeze its paw/hand/wingtip? And it would do a quack sound.
Middle of the night we hear this (hard to describe in text) low, building, possessed tortured quacking getting louder and louder. Then suddenly it stops!
This happens now and then, only in the middle of the night and it is creepy as hell!
Turned out that it was the ignition circuit of the house's heater triggering the duck to spazz out. If the duck was left in the hall in front of the heater, when we went to bed, it would fire off. Otherwise it would just lay dormant.
Could be the same with your fan?
