Thanks for the advice Jerry. I inspected the springs and u joints-- nothing is cracked or broken. In all honesty I never really gave removing the shackle bolts a chance. I loosened the keeper bolt on the shackle and gave the pin a few taps with a punch and quit. I wasn't sure if that was the correct way of removing the pin and didn't want to go beating on it. Some illustrations I've seen looks like the pin is threaded... maybe that's a different style? The main goal of this project is to get the back end to sit down about 2 inches.
