Almost 2 months ago I asked for ideas on how to release a seized rear brake on a 64 WM300 I was going to pick up in Tennessee. I finally brought the truck home last Friday. After trying all suggestions and other ideas I could come by rectal extraction: I finally bullied the truck on my car carrier with a 12 ton HF electric winch.
After I got it home I decided to leave the truck on the car carrier for a convenient working height. After retrying all the stuff I did last Friday and a couple of other stupid ideas: I got desperate.
One of the pieces of surplus junk which came with the truck was a 1/2" thick piece of steel 9" x 30" with a bunch of 3/4" holes drilled in it ( kind of looked like a bridge gusset plate). I bolted the corner of the plate under one of the lug nuts to preserve the stud and the nut and began trying to wear a 6 lb sledge out. When my arm was about to fall off the drum began to turn slowly. After applying copious amounts of rust buster and many plate reinstalls the brake finally turns rather freely.
I'm now waiting for a drag link screwdriver socket to find out what adventures lie inside the brake drum.
