So our Flathead engine valves are very different than modern overhead valve systems. Our tappets need protection that many believe you get from high zinc oil. Rotella 15w40 is one of the best non synthetic oils with more zinc than most. On a new Flathead we still use a zinc additive for break in. (ZDDP).
