I live in a temperate region but even driving in 95 degrees at 55 mph or 1 mph on the trail I have never had overheating issues. I have never drilled the hole. I don't see the point. take a dip stick and see if you can slide it all the way down the cooling tubes you can see from the cap. if not they are plugged
