I guess I messed up using a sand pad.... The part I am installing has 2 prongs that go through 2 holes in the circuit board. The holes have a metal "ring" around them, that the prongs are to be soldered to. Without soldering the connection isn't good enough to provide adequate continuity for the circuit board to do it's job.... I figured the "one size fits all" solder I was using wasn't ideal, but I didn't think it would be so hard to get to adhere.
