To answer your question, the rendevous was there (Taylor Park) about 4 years ago and we took a slew of PWs over all those passes and did some hard ones too. I remember on the way to one pass we drove up a hard running creek where we had to negotiate rocks under water the size of TV sets. There were no family wagons on that trip. The truck you saw in Aspen was there though.
