RDavis;
You are correct about lots of different engines in the '50's. The Dodges offered 241,259 and 270 in. with either hemi or poly heads. Plymouth offered the same sizes, but with only the poly heads. These were all on size (low deck) block. Following these, Dodge had the 315 and 325 in both hemi and poly styles; these were high deck blocks.
DeSoto had 276 and 291 hemis in their low deck version and 330, 343(rare), & 345 high decks, all hemis. There were some '57 DeSoto Firesweeps with 325 polys borrowed from Dodge.
Chrysler had 331 & 354 hemis and polys and a 299 poly, all on their low deck. The 392 came only as a hemi and is a high deck block.

Now, Plymouth engineers designed their own engine family and produced the 277, 301, 303('56 Fury), 318, and , for one year only, the 326 w/hyd. lifters only in the '59 Dodge cars. These engines were a completely different family, with somewhat similar appearance to the other polys. There are NO hemi heads that fit this block, and very little else that interchanges, either. These use the intake manifold as the valley cover, and all the others have a separate valley cover under the manifold.
