My wife thought I was nuts before and she told me that this weekend has erased any doubt in her mind (but what does she know). Traveled ~640 miles round trip to sit around and talk to a bunch of PW enthusiasts for ~12 hours, and it was GREAT!
The only day I was able to attend was Saturday and a lot of folks had already broke camp. I did get to meet Carl Buckingham, Greg Coffin, Aaron Arnold, John Eickof and his bud “Digger” Dan, Jim Pace and other soon to be “famous” Forum members. I want to thank everyone that shared their stories and time with me. A special thanks to Dan M. from Denver for sharing his beer, chair, and his campfire (got pretty chilly when the sun went down).
There was a group of “Land Rover Guys” in town as well. I never laughed so hard as when Carl told the story of him harassing one of them while the poor guy was stuck on a hill. It seems that Carl drove around him, parked at the top, grabbed his trusty video camera, walked back down and proceeded to interview the stranded Rover driver through the truck’s window. Carl was asking the pertinent questions like, “How’s it going?” Being the nice guy that he is, Carl even offered to sell him his truck! “For $65,000, I’ll sell you my Power Wagon and you can drive up this hill right now!” For some reason I don’t think the Landy guy appreciated the offer.
It was cool to put faces to names and to actually have real time two-way conversation. My only complaint is that I showed up late and didn’t get to meet everyone. I have already put 1 week of vacation on the calendar for next year. My truck may not be ready but I will be!
As a side note. Although it never actually came down to be seen in the open, the old ‘leventythree could be heard prowling and kicking around up in the brush. A few guys said they caught a glimpse, but that was probably just the beer talking...or was it?
Oh yeah, thank you Fred C. for the directions! I wouldn't have found it without your help!
