Fellow Power Wagon-ers,

I recently started a side business doing media blasting using a Smith 100 compressor (302 Ford V8 where half the V8 is engine, the other half is compressor with a special head). I used it today on my first paying job and after about 40 minutes went to shut it off and found it spraying coolant out the overflow - the serpentine belt had broken. I replaced the serpentine and topped it off with water. After running it for another 30-40 minutes, I went to shut it off and it was again spraying coolant but the belt was fine and the fan spinning. The compressor head visually appeared to be running hot (fumes coming off). When I have shut it down the last few times, it has backfired bad....it wants to keep running for 10-15 seconds and shoots flames from the exhaust.

Any ideas on overheating and backfiring?

Other info:
Since purchasing it recently, I have replaced the muffler and starter (upgraded starter to gear reduction unit with built in solenoid). The coil is missing the bracket and currently sits on top of the intake manifold - I will fix this soon.
