When you stomp on the gas, the throttle butterfly opens, and the engine gets a big gulp of air. But the vacuum operated computer called a carburetor can't respond that fast, so the accelerator pump gives a squirt of gas.

Te linkage adjusts when and the total amount of squirt. Reaming out the nozzle itself will give a faster shot.

It does nothing at idle, it only works when you stomp. Symptom a a bad one will be a bog, hesitation, or delay when you hit the gas. It also gives a shot when you 'pump the gas' before starting when cold. That is to assist the choke.

It is NOT your idle problem, nor you low power at high speed prob.
