Accelerator pump explanation?

Will yall explain to me about accelerator pumps?

What part of the fuel distribution its responsible for?
How it functions?

If the linkage raises it higher up what effect it will have?

If you adjust the linkage to make it shorter what the effect will be?

Is it partially responsible for idle?

How to correctly measure for adjustment? What is the correct distance?

If you have the time will you try to be thorough so i can get a good understanding of how it works. Also if you could go into jets, step up piston, idle screw. Is there any good manuals to learn more about it?
