There's no way you can shortcut doing the entire cooling system. You do it now or you do it later after a lot of frustration with an overheating truck.
It's almost a given that you will have to replace the water distribution tube if it hasn't been replaced in the last 50 years. It's got to come out anyway to do a thorough job of flushing the block.
