The other one that gets me on good paved mountain roads where people creep cautiously around every curve and then when they finally get to a straightaway or passing lane, they speed up so you can't get by them. Then when they get to the next curvy part they slow right down again. I really don't think they're trying to be jerks. I think they're just honestly oblivious to the fact that there are any other cars on the road. They're nervous on the curvy parts and confident on the straight parts, so they just go however fast they feel like going in either case.

Another one that gets me is these city people who come up and drive on the dirt roads to go sight-seeing in the summer. It's all new to them and they're poking along with the wife and kids in the car looking at the scenery, which is fine, but I'm stuck behind them in a cloud of dust trying to actually get somewhere. They never pull over, and some of them even speed up when I try to pass them.

I used to have a great-uncle in Oregon who liked to tell the story of the big blizzard on Mt Hood and how he bravely led a long line of cars all the way from Timberline down to Zigzag. To hear him tell it, they would have been afraid to go out in the storm if he hadn't led the way. To his dying day I don't think it ever occurred to him that all those people he was "leading" were dearly wishing the old man would pull over and let them by.

With all my old rigs, I've done a lot more slow driving than most people, but I always pull over whenever I get any chance if there's anyone behind me, and if it's going to be a real slow trip, like flat-towing an M35 with another M35, I try to do it at night or take the farm roads as much as possible.
