I wonder how long it really takes for the yoke to seize up, though. We get these rigs that haven't been run for 20 or 30 years, were left out in all kinds of weather, and most likely the winch shear pin has never sheared since the truck was built. It may well be that breaking it loose once, getting all the rust off, putting anti-sieze (or even just grease) all over it, and putting a new pin in, would suffice for the next 50 years, especially if truck wasn't left out in the rain and the mud all the time.

Sometimes we think about how to "upgrade" the old designs when really they were just fine and all that happened was 50-60 years of age and neglect. Do we really need to worry about the shear pin yoke getting stuck when we're 100 or 120 years old? Will there even be gasoline then?
