I did some checking around, and the word on the street is that the rebuild cartridge for the pre-1968 cast iron water pump will fit perfectly into the honeycomb style aluminum water pump (see above). It should allow the pump to be shortened by 3/4" If my engine has this pump on it (not sure because I pick it up tomorrow) I'm going to rebuild it with the shorter cartridge and make sure it works. If it works, I'll post all the info here, and post a thread on the PWA site so that it is easier to find/view.
