After reading the forum for several years, it appears that an officially transferred title or lack thereof can be an issue in some states--when you are ready to buy or sell.
Any motor vehicle here that needs a tag older than 1986 (this may be subject to change) only needs a bill of sale. Even if it's just scribbled on the side of a brown paper sack, will do. Show it to the local tax office and let them make a photocopy, show proof of insurance, pay your $20, and you are on your way with a new tag and registration (in Georgia)
Has anyone ever compiled a list of states that have to have an official title? Seems to be an issue if you sell in some states.
