If your output shafts have endplay on them then that is a sign your bearings are worn. You would remove the any shims needed to bring the preload into range. I have not had any of my xcases with endplay like you say. Perhaps the cases were not set up right to begin with. They are very easy to set up once the bearings are installed. Are you missing the large flat washers next to the yokes for the front side shafts?. The rear outputs are opposing tapered roller bearings so they must be set up with the right amount of shimming. Check to make sure the yokes do not bottom out on the splines before compressing the bearing pack. I'll have a look at the one I have apart to check for anything else..
