bearing shims in NP200

OK, so I am rebuilding my NP200. Before I took it out, I did notice all the yoke shafts had some "end" play. I'm putting things back together, and I need to add a lot more shims, maybe 0.05" or so. I can't detect and visable bearing wear, but the play exists on both gear shafts that need to have a bit of preload on them.

Do I just make more shims up and let it fly? The shaft nut is going on all the way, the large washer that is .150 thick is tight when I put the yoke and nut on.
