It is not a particularly technical job but there are several pitfalls to avoid. IIRC book rate to r/r a VE pump on a b-madel Cummins is 6hrs. The engine needs to be brought to exact TDC. The pump then needs to be locked so it doesn't turn. Then there is a small pin behind the pump that will lock the gears in time if it hasn't been broken off by a previous mechanic. The baring tool will allow you to turn the engine over from the topside which is very helpful. A second person really helps too. Like was said stuff a rag into the gear case after removing the gear case cover to prevent things from falling into the oil pan. The Snap-On wrench mentioned I believe is the "S" shaped box wrench. The mount bolts are all but impossible to get without a special wrench or modified wrench. Care must be taken when installing the new pump so as not to turn the engine over or bump the new pump out of time as it is set at the rebuilder. Another important repair to make at this time is to cure the KDP (killer dowel pin). A google search will turn up lots of reading on this little time bomb.
A Factory Cummins B engine manual will serve you well for instructions.
