Is that a fancy way of saying they want everybody hooked up to the utilities and totally dependent on them for heat, light, water, and sewer so that they can then threaten to cut you off if you don't do everything the way they want? I see Avista is going to experiment in Moscow (hmmm...) with smart meters that let the electric company monitor your electric usage in real time and turn off certain loads when they want to. Of course the initial pilot program is strictly voluntary and of course they promise to keep all the private data they collect on your electric usage private. Is the day coming when making your own heat, light, and water will be just as illegal as making your own booze? If it gets to that point, I may have to move to North Idaho.
