Ken,
You should loosen all the main bearing caps a couple of turns. Don't remove the caps except for rear one. The idea is to drop the crackshaft a few thousands. Then take all the sparkplugs out and have an assistant use a rachet wrench on the damper bolt and turn the engine(batt. disconnected). Then take the sneaky pete tool and pull top half out same direction as the crank rotates. Clean seal channel, roll new seal in top/bottom and and torque the cap bolts to spec.
