I went to change the oil today on my'64 W200 (LA 318 / NP420). Nothing major, right? - well thats how my major projects start!!

I've been noticing a lot of oil under the truck recently and thought it was the oilpan. The temperatures finally got out of the 30's today so I figured that it was as good as a time as any to take care of that. Well, I pulled the inspection cover off of the bellhousing to just make myself feel better that the oil was from the oilpan alone... nope, need a new rear main seal.

I've pulled the neoprene ones out without dropping pulling the motor before and couldn't tell until I pulled a chunk of this one out that it was rope vs. rubber.

I continued to pull out all that I could until I couldn't reach any more (on top of crankshaft. I then tried to push the rest of the seal out with a coathanger, but I think I just compressed it even more. I tried to push while hand-turning the crank -- no luck.

Any ideas on how to get this thing out? Since it is a 4speed I'd have to pull the tranny to pull the crank out while the motor is in the truck, right?

If nobody has any ideas, I'll probably just end up pulling the motor. (I noticed an antifreeze drop on the starter while I was under there - I have a feeling that the freeze plugs may be giving me a warning)

Thanks,
