I've got a question for you all. My friend has a '53 PW
bus. He's on his third set of 4.89 ring and pinions. They're
only lasting five or six thousand miles. I helped him put
the last set in, and he knows what he's doing. The bus
does have dual wheels, and is being worked hard. A lot of
creeping in the mountains in low gear. It's powered by a
Chevy 350 (not my idea) I've suggested synthetic oil. He's
lukewarm to that but is going to change the oil in the diff
more often. He's talking about tearing both differentials out
and going to a split axle. Any thoughts? I'm concerned about
my own ring and pinions. What's going on here?
