I took the brand new "one wire" alternator to the rebuild shop. They put it on the bench and tested it. It's not a "one wire" alternator. Napa screwed up. Thankfully, they exchanged it for the correct alternator, which was also tested on the bench, and works just fine. It's not the highest output alternator out there (try a CS-130D for low RPMs and 105+ Amp output - goes for about $150).

They checked my wiring and said it was correct. They highly recommended the one wire system for the sake of simplicity in re-wiring older vehicles. If it works, I'll leave it. If I still don't have enough power, I'll have to look into the more expensive unit.

I was also able to tighten the belt a lot tighter because the bracket now fits over the alternator. It was binding before and not allowing the alternator to move far enough away from the engine to pull the belt tight.
