Just to throw another option out there, and I haven't addressed mine yet, I got a price to have a new tank fabricated out of stainless steel for about $400. So while there are less expensive ways, that is another option. And yes, it did last 40 years already so probably just cleaning it would be good enough. but if you look at the cost of boiling the existing tank, then taking it to get renu'd, you may be similar in pricing or not that much more for a brand new stainless steel tank that you would never have a problem with (and you could design a simple sump with plug in it to clean out crud on occassion).
