If in Canada you can get an air brake ticket w/o a CDL, then that should be legal documentation in the United States? I don't believe the US has such a thing. I looked into it before when I looked at a 22gvw truck that had air brakes. I determined I still needed a CDL....

If you blow by a scale, they are gonna come after you. Maybe not the first or second time, but eventually you will be going pass a slow scale where they have nothing better to do. That could turn your 3 day trip into a week or more depending how often it happened ;(

Richard Bowman who everyone knows, has his Kenworth Motorhome/hauler. I talked with him in Vermont and if he's not pulling the trailer, you do not need a CDL to drive. He said by pulling the trailer and it being over 10,000lbs, that is what triggers the CDL requirement.

It's all in the way you get it licensed. If you are able to get it licensed temporarily where it is for "Recreational Use" which would be CDL exempt, you would be ok. Still may get stopped, but you would be legal.

Just my thoughts...

Pieter
