It sounds like the front hub has been damaged or possibly the axel. Taking it apart will tell. Repair manuals are out there, it will take some looking. Try at swap meets for cars/trucks, usually they have vendors selling that type of litature. The oil cleaner is supposed to have oil like you were told. Thats the way they filtered the air back then as apposed to paper filters of today. I have been told the paper filters are better.

You might find out the history by running your trucks history through DMV in your area. I'm not sure about yourtie rod, but it sounds like it may be bent from what tou have told me. The parts truck you have sounds good. The larger rear window was a rare option. If you find a sales brochure or the 1966/1967 PW truck you will see a
picture on the cover of a truck with the larger window. You may want to switch cabs, but that would depend on the type of restoration you are doing since the vin plates would not match.

I am working on restoring a W-300 1964 which was
a one owner truck with only 38000 miles on it. I'll try to help if I can. Buy the repair manual as soon as you can.
