Trailer Question

I'm looking at buying a trailer to haul my 52 PW. Can I get away with a 9,990 lb.weight class. Or do I have to go to the 12,000 and get a CDL. I'm only planning on using the trailer to haul the Old Girl once or twice a year. The rest of the year the trailer will be use for general farm equipment haulage.
