Why all of a sudden? The subject of “why does diesel cost so much” has come up here and on other forums, and my favorite explanation was “The new low sulfur blends are harder to refine, so diesel is, and likely will remain higher since the extra effort required to de-sulfur it won’t go away.”

Did it all of a sudden get easy to remove sulfur? Did the law change? Did they refine way more than we need for some reason? I know the peak driving season is past, and Nigeria hasn’t had a coup in a week or so, and fuel efficient cars are vogue again… but why would this change diesel to unleaded rates?

How does this fit into your favorite conspiracy theory?
