Are you asking about the eye shape protrusion of the casting that hangs down from the bottom driver's side of the transfer case? The one that could hang up on a log if you were unlucky enough?

I have seen both kinds of transfer cases on WDX-WM300 model Power-Wagons. Some with the eye, and some with the eye machined off and a number stamped there. I always figured the eye was a throwback to the earlier case that was used in the WC62 and WC63 6x6. But, I am not sure, and would like to know too.
