John,
I read your post on the previous forum and recall having a similar sound on my '61, prior to replacing the water pump. With the belt off, I could rotate the old pump by hand and feel the bad bearings. You might try the same thing since your belt is off. It should be obvious.
Hope that's it, because it's an easy fix.
