I agree with Chris. Dont wack up a good set of stock tailgates. To many people want/need them for a true restoration. I would suggest, sell the stock tailgates and with the money you get, you can buy a set of Dodge Panel Doors, wack the bottom off and rebox. And it will be much easier than going the way you asked about.
The Panel doors on my Carryall fit/work great, and yes, I sold my original tailgates to a person doing an original resto.
